Library

The Main Library of AWF Warsaw has been open since November 1929. It performs service and didactic functions. It also operates as a centre of scientific information in the field of physical culture, sports, rehabilitation, tourism and related sciences. Its resources are used mainly by students and academic staff, however the library is open to users from outside who are interested in the subjects taught at AWF Warsaw. When it comes to resources of the library, there are more than 90 thousand books and 16 thousand volumes of periodicals.
The catalogue of the library is computerized. OWL [SOWA] library system allows remote catalogue browsing, remote booking and ordering. The Library creates its own bibliographic databases in EXPERTUS system – BIBLIO (publications from Polish magazines and books on physical culture), DRHAB (doctoral and postdoctoral theses), DYPLOM (undergraduate and graduate theses). PUBLIKACJE base, including bibliometric modules, contains current publishing achievements of the University.
Licensed electronic resources are crucial for the scientific activity of the University. Computer and Reading rooms are equipped with computer stations, where users may access the resources of the Virtual Library of Science (bases of EBSCO, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Wiley, Web of Science platforms, bases of Nature and Science magazines. Apart from the standard package of the Virtual Library of Science, the Library provides access to resources purchased by the University that are thematically related to the University's profile: SportDiscus, Hospitality & Tourism Complete, PrimalPictures Anatomical Atlas, LWW publishing journal package. Researchers and doctoral students have the possibility to use individual accounts allowing them to access full texts from outside the University.
